A Ferrari Killed Itself, Then Saved Everybody from Impending Doom
Dammit, Ferrari, didn’t you see there are no U-Turns? Can’t be out here pulling those kinds of stunts!
Unfortunately, this scene that looks exactly like something out of a movie production was real life at a gas station in the town of Martinez in Northern California. Al Cui was routinely filling up his 1978 Ferrari 308, and was returning the nozzle to its place on the pump when he saw a spark. The next thing he knew, his classic Italian stallion was in flames.
After using a fire extinguisher that didn’t do the job, the series of unfortunate events took another turn when the car started rolling away from the dangerous position next to the pumps and into the street.
“I had it in gear, but I think the car got hot enough that it must have popped something in place,” Cui said. “The car ended up rolling into the street, thank God, because, as you can see, it would have flamed up this gas station and been an ugly scene.”
It’s not the usual flaming Ferrari stories we hear about, but this is certainly one for the wild and wacky history books.
