Ferrari Portofino May Just Be the Best Ferrari Money Can Buy
While the rest of the Ferrari lineup boasts ridiculous performance, the Portofino keeps things cool and sexy.
There’s a common problem with supercar makers nowadays, and you’re going to think we’re absolutely nuts for saying this. Supercars nowadays are just too damn hardcore.
Technological marvels, incredible feats of engineering, and flat out rocket ships are just several ways to describe the likes of the Ferrari 488, 812 Superfast, etc. In many ways, specs and track times have replaced emotion and pleasure. Although supercars are meant to be fast, they’re meant to be felt and enjoyed.
This is where the Portofino hardtop convertible GT will succeed.
The Design
The sweeping lines, the curvaceous humps, and the bulging hood are automotive erotica. Unlike recent Prancing Horses, the Portofino doesn’t look robotic — it looks passionate. Even better, its 2+2 configuration allows you to share that passion with two more people (with really short legs). Oh, and how about those stunning wheels?
The Performance
It may have replaced the “meh” Ferrari California, and it may be the “entry level” ride from Maranello, but you’d never know this by looking at the spec sheet. Its 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 emanates a whopping 598 horsepower, which can propel this red Viagra pill from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
But remember, it’s not all about the specs. Ferrari promises the Portofino will “dominate its segment thanks to a perfect combination of sportiness, elegance and on board comfort.”
Its Personality
Judging it by its looks, the Portofino won’t take itself too seriously. Like the California, no one ever broke their neck doing a double take. It stood out enough to have a presence, but it didn’t scream BRRAAAAPPPP-POP-POP-POPAH! while cruising down the street like its V8 and V12 siblings.
This means whoever buys one of these won’t be wrapping them in snow camo patterns, adding Tubi exhausts, and revving the shit out of the engine at every stoplight. No, they will simply enjoy their exquisite ride, in the same manner they’d enjoy a trip to one of Italy’s most beautiful ports — Portofino.
