TRAFFIC REPORT 918 Burns, #1 Hellcat Gets $825K & a Lamborghini Hybrid?
First a recall of the 918, now one burns to the ground. According to Jalopnik, this fire began at a Toronto gas station and luckily the entire place didn’t burn as well. But the car was not able to be saved.
It isn’t known what started the fire on the 918, but from the pictures, it definitely looks like it started in the engine bay. But it also could be a defective part from the gas station.
Porsches aren’t usually known for their self-immolation, that’s usually saved for the Italians. However, just last year, Porsche issued a recall for the 991 GT3 due to a rash of fires that burned quite a few cars to the ground.
I’m sure Porsche is on the phone or talking directly to the owner to see what happened, and most likely a thorough post mortem on the car will be done in order to prevent it ever happening again to any of the other 918s.
First Hellcat Sells for a Staggering $825k!
We are all eagerly awaiting the first Hellcat to hit the road so that we can listen to the free flowing exhaust rumble on by and then light up the back tires all the way down the street. Well, that day is fast coming with the sale of the first Hellcat in the books.
Like many automakers these days with a car that is so hyped as the Hellcat, the first car went up for auction at Barrett Jackson in Vegas on Saturday and went for a staggering $825,000!
While most of the cars will never go for that sum of money, this special car was purchased and all the proceeds went to Opportunity Vehicle, a Las Vegas charity that helps handicapped individuals.
The car, vin number 0001 was in Stryker Red, a paint that is usually reserved for the mighty Viper, and had a few other goodies thrown into it. Let’s just hope the new owner upon receiving the keys to the car immediately went out and ripped a sick burnout, because that’s what I would’ve done!
Is This the Lamborghini Asterion?
When Lamborghini teased us last week, everyone, and I mean everyone thought it was going to be a new sedan due to the cryptic teaser and line about doubling something. Now however, another mysterious picture has surfaced that shows a very different car than what we were all thinking.
This picture was leaked from what appears to be a magazine that got early information about the upcoming Lamborghini, and to me it looks like a Lamborghini Alfa Romeo 4C. The proportions looks almost spot on with the 4C just with all the edges that make-up Lamborghini’s current design language.
Another small detail was also leaked last week, when Lamborghini trademarked the name Asterion, the TM featured a small lightning bolt above the “i” in the name possibly giving credence to the rumors that Lamborghini might be introducing hybrid technology into its cars.
Like the AMG GT Edition 1, we won’t have to wait all that long to get a full view of the car since it’s set to debut later this week at the Paris Auto Show. Personally, from these pictures, this car just does absolutely nothing for me. What do you all think? Is a hybrid Lamborghini a good thing?
