First Ferrari EV Will Have Its Own 'Authentic' Soundtrack

The first Ferrari EV won’t be a silent, straight-line weapon. It’ll be a well-rounded performer with its own ‘unique’ sound.

Ferrari doesn’t do anything with subtlety in mind. A trip back through the iconic brand’s library of supercars and hypercars removes any doubt. From the properly unhinged V8 soundtrack of the now-senior-citizen F40 to the open-top lunacy of the SF90 XX Spider, Maranello’s treasured marque can’t do quiet, understated, or meek.

And it looks like the first Ferrari EV will be no different. According to Drive, the Italian brand’s executives assured fans that the first Prancing Horse with an electric heart will be a “true Ferrari.” Fortunately, the marque also reiterated its commitment to gas-powered and hybrid models. The first electric Ferrari won’t kill the petrol-powered beast. There, see? You can breathe easy now.

What it will be, however, is an evolutionary step for the brand. For starters, Ferrari won’t let its first EV spin up quietly. No, no. That would be un-Ferrari. Instead, the electrified Ferrari will produce an ” authentic” sound.

“Whenever we talk about a car, we talk about the driving thrills, which is a combination of power, force, weight, brakes [and] sound,” head of product marketing Emanuele Carando told Australian media. “There is a more scientific and engineering approach, which is longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, braking, gear shifting, and sound. Those five elements are the most important elements we evaluate and we build together to develop our cars.”

The brand says the first Ferrari EV won’t be a one-trick pony. While other performance luxury EVs, like the Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air, and Rimac Nevera, scramble for the fastest acceleration times, the first Ferrari EV won’t. The brand asserts that it isn’t concerned with dethroning its own ballistically quick SF90 XX Stradale.

Frankly, that would be a tall order. Launching the 1,016-horsepower hybrid hypercar will smash the sprint to 60 mph in less than 2.3 seconds. Instead, the brand wants the new EV to be a “fast, agile, fun car to drive.”
