Ford Kills My Dreams by Shooting Down the Falcon
Sad day for fans of Australian V8 RWD Sedans, Ford official launched the final edition of the Australian Ford Falcon. WHY, WHY HAS THIS BEFALLEN US!? Oh yeah, it’s become too expensive for Ford to manufacture and sell RWD Sedans only in Australia.
This is really a tragedy, the Australian market has always been a mythical unicorn type land of enchantment, where V8s still roamed and hoons hooned them around the Outback picking up wallabys and cooking shrimp on the Barbie. Now with both Ford and Holden (GM) leaving the Australian market without any V8 powered sedans, that luster is fading and I can’t help be sad.
The last edition of the Ford Falcon, as released by Ford, pretty much just received a facelift with Ford’s new Aston Martin type grill. Not much changes for this year, due to the high cost of R&D. Ford stated that the new XR6 and XR8 models of the Falcon received just minor cosmetic additions like DRLs, new LED tail lamps, and a slightly different interior.
What Ford was mum about in the press release was if there would be a Falcon GT coming down the pike with the refreshed body. The Falcon GT doesn’t use the newer Coyote engine we get in the Mustang, but rather a 5.4L V8 dubbed the Boss 315, which makes around 500 hp. Ford was also mum about whether or not FPV, the Australian equivalent to SVT or Shelby would be getting their hands on the new Falcon.
I’m going to propose something to Ford right now. Since the Australians don’t want these cars anymore, and you still have all the tooling and molds, can you please bring the Falcon over here? I’d love for a stick shift, RWD, Coyote powered sedan sitting in my garage!
