Forum Find Friday: 2011 GT3 RS 4.0 is a Holy Grail 911

Unicorn-status 2011 GT3 4.0 is one of 400 made and equipped with a manual 6-speed and a 500 horsepower naturally aspirated flat-6.

Any Porsche GT3 RS is a special machine. Which leaves us wondering exactly how to describe a GT3 RS that is even more special than most other ones out there. Extra special? Super special? Pretty much any automotive superlative you can conjure up would probably be appropriate for the 2011 GT3 RS 4.0 that 6 Speed Online forum user BS785647 is selling in the marketplace sub-forum.

A lot of die-hard Porsche enthusiasts rightly feel that the 997-gen GT3 RS 4.0 might be one of the greatest 911s of all time. As fellow 6 Speed Online forum user Trackhero points out, “This is the holy grail of 997 GT3s and possibly even GT3s all together. It’s like having a Weissach package on steroids and a lot more rare because they only made a limited amount.”

What’s so special about the mythical beast? As Trackhero points out Porsche only made 600. Of that number, supposedly only 141 made it to the states. Beyond the 4.0’s rarity though is its impressive mechanical specification. Under the rear engine lid is a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-6 that makes an impressive 500 horsepower. And the engine revs to an insane 8400-rpm. Pair that with the always excellent Porsche 6-speed, terrific handling and braking and you end up with a recipe for one of the greatest driver’s 911s ever.

According to the seller’s window sticker, this RS 4.0 in question originally sold for $204,830. The 911 was painted Carrara White and came with a full black leather interior. Options included Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes  (PCCB) and Sport Chrono Package Plus. The Porsche was also equipped with Alcantara sun visors, Sound Package Plus, and a few other niceties.

Asking price for all this goodness? The seller is asking $479,000. That may seem like a lot. That is until you take a look at some other GT3 RS 4.0-liters that have come up for sale. Take this Paint-to-Sample RS 4.0 that Road and Track wrote about that had a price of $600,000!
