Gallery: Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept at the 2014 International CES

One of the automotive highlights at this year’s International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas was the Audi Sport quattro laserlight concept, which is a version of the Sport quattro concept equipped with laser high beams. The Sport quattro’s laser road illumination technology previews the lighting tech that will be used this year on the Audi R18 e-tron quattro Le Mans Prototype racing car. If the R18’s laser lights perform well in competition, we could see laser lighting technology on an Audi production car as early as late 2014 in Europe. If the German premium car manufacturer can get past outdated NHTSA regulations, we may see Audi’s laser lights hitting U.S. roads sometime in 2015.

One thing that had me concerned about laser lighting was a radiation risk to pedestrians and wildlife, but the Audi folks assured me testing had been conducted so that living beings illuminated by Audi’s laser light beams would be safe from radiation poisoning.
