Galpin Prepares for Massive Annual Car Show

Galpin 2014 Car Show

Galpin expects over one thousand vehicles to be on display at its SoCal campus in October.

The Galpin Auto Sports name is well-known for its involvement with various television shows and multiple projects with Ford Motor Company over the past decade or so. The Galpin Empire also includes dealerships for Ford, Volkswagen, Mazda, Kia and a handful of other brands, along with their “Premier” dealership, combining a handful of exotic brands under one roof including Aston Martin, Jaguar and Lotus.

Many of the Galpin businesses are in their “campus” area, which is located along Roscoe Boulevard in Los Angeles and for the seventh-straight year, the Galpin campus will be the host to one of the biggest car shows in the area. On October 7th, the company expects nearly a thousand show vehicles to be on display in the many parking lots scattered throughout the sprawling campus, but the show vehicles are just part of the fun.

Show Vehicles

The heart of the annual Galpin Car Show is, of course, the show vehicles. Show registration is free and there are nine different classes, including Hot-Rods, Classic Volkswagen, European and Imports, American Muscle Cars, Classic Cars/Customs/Antiques, Race Cars, One-Off Rides, Off-Road Vehicles and Super Cars/Exotics. The company expects upwards of a thousand vehicles, but pre-registration is required and you must include pictures of the vehicle that you want to show.

In other words, it sounds like Galpin approves show vehicles in order to get the best and brightest in the area, while also preventing people from displaying cars that have no business at a massive car show.

We found a couple videos of footage from the 2017 Galpin Car Show and we have included one below. In these clips, you get a rough idea of the size and scope of this event. While Galpin is best known for their work with Ford, this is clearly far more than a Ford show. There are rows and rows of stunning exotics that you can check out that footage below.

Aside from the basic car show vehicles, Galpin will also display special vehicles from their collection including Shelby Mustangs and Ford GT supercars. There will also be some high profile show cars on hand, including “Gypsy Rose” Impala lowrider and the custom “Black Pearl” Jaguar owned by Metallica lead singer James Hetfield.

Family Fun

In addition to the gigantic car show, Galpin has attractions for the kids such as carnival games, rides and “paint the truck”, as well as live entertainment and all sorts of food vendors.

Ford has a similar setup each year at the Woodward Dream Cruise and it is a great attraction for car lovers who are attending with their families, as mom and dad can enjoy the cars while the kids can enjoy the carnival attractions and food.

Finally, there will be a lowrider hop area, giving attendees the opportunity to experience that unique automotive genre.

Click here to register your show vehicle and if you don’t have a show car, but you live in the area of Galpin’s campus, mark your calendar for October 7th.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
