Some have called this Israeli ad for the new Honda Civic Type R controversial but I find it hilarious. Evidently, if you are going to let out the performance of Big Red’s new sporty hot hatch, you’ll need a woman faking labor pains to do so.

In the ad below, the red Honda Civic Type R is pulled over by a highway police officer for speeding. To get out of the ticket his pregnant wife screams “DRIVE or I am having this baby in the car!” The patrolman leaves understanding that there is a reason for the driver’s speeding and the driver escapes without a ticket.

The ad goes onto say that the only way to have a good time in this family friendly, yet ultra capable hot hatch with 310 hp, a top speed of 168 mph, and a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds is to trick the police with an absurd gimmick.

Now in the real world, a cop would either call an ambulance or safely escort you directly to the nearest hospital at speeds that are not considered “speedy” but again, Honda is going for humor here.

The ad itself could have ended there and it would have been excellent and relatable but Honda went one step further and made it a bit weird by putting together a group of actresses who practice the fake labor routine complete with a fake belly and training session with a doula, a woman who assists another during childbirth.

The gathering is an education lesson to teach the actresses, “who are willing to sacrifice their morals for you” on how to properly pretend they’re going into labor so they can allow you to drive the Civic Type R as bonkers as you wish on those Sunday drives.

Check out the video below with English subtitles and let us know what you think. Regardless of the narrative of the ad, we love the Civic Type R. It looks like one mean little hot hatch.
