Here Are 5 Things We Are Looking Forward To In 2017
We think 2017 will be an amazing year for car enthusiasts.
The new year has begun and there are a handful of things we are excited about. Freevalve engine technology, the return of an Alfa Romeo sports sedan, and hyper cars based on Formula one technology just to name a few. Let’s take a look at what 2017 has in store.
Koenigsegg Freevalve technology.
After the internal combustion engine adopted electronic ignition, and fuel injection, it has spent decades without any revolutionary changes. Koenigsegg’s Freevalve system is set to become that breakthrough technology. By freeing up valve-train losses and having pneumatic control of each individual valve, It will be far more efficient and more powerful, too.
Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrifoglio.
Alfa Romeo’s return to U.S. sales is welcomed by all enthusiasts, especially because we will get to lay our eyes on the beautiful Guilia sedan. Setting the bar for all other sports sedans will be the 505 horsepower twin turbo V6 Quadrifoglio. There’s only one down-side: Europe gets a proper 6-speed manual, while only the automatic is offered here.
Starting in 2017, Formula 1 rules will dictate fatter tires, and far less aerodynamic aides. The aim is to make the cars a little more difficult and challenging to drive, ensuring that more passing takes place, and the races become a little less predictable.
Porsche’s iconic endurance racer has been forced to evolve at an equal pace with its rivals. An engine slung over the back wheels simply won’t do any more, as the new RSR moves the engine closer to the center of the car. Ford and Ferrari have made their move with mid-engine cars, while the Corvette still has its engine in defiant protest, just in front of the driver.
New hyper cars from Aston Martin and Mercedes AMG.
Two cars, two vastly different approaches. Aston Martin and Mercedes are both working on ultimate performance hypercars, tapping into their vast knowledge of speed. Aston Martin’s AM-RB 001 will enlist the help of Formula 1 team, Red Bull racing, and feature a “large capacity V12 engine.” Mercedes AMG is going a completely different route. They will stick with a similar hybrid power unit that’s found in their successful Formula 1 cars. Turbo V6 power is expected, along with a KERS-like system to give the car some extra shove.
