Infiniti Prototype 10 is the electric sports racer we’d drive to Pebble Beach.

This electric, single-seat roadster is the Infiniti Prototype 10. Yes, as the name implies, this a concept only, at least, for now. Pebble Beach news has been flooding in, and Prototype 10 was one of the first. Infiniti describes this retro sports racer as a “classic speedster with a cool, clean, forward-looking design that is inspired by the potential for electrification.”

The new concept follows two other design studies revealed by Infiniti in the last 12 months: the Prototype 9, first revealed in 2017, and the Infiniti Q Inspiration concept, unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. However, this latest piece of penmanship, despite looking deliciously vintage, looks squarely towards the future. Infiniti, like many other manufacturers, is quickly headed for mass electrification. The brand supposedly will offer some form of electrification on every model, sports cars included, by 2021.

Karim Habib, Executive Design Director of Infiniti, head this to say about Prototype 10:

“For us, Prototype 9 evokes the thrill and drama of early open-wheeled racing, and Prototype 10 represents another passion project for our designers. This idea of ‘looking back to go forward’, and combining the inspiration of an earlier aesthetic with future technology, lets us show how excited we are about the era of electrification. Prototype 10 draws on some of the most iconic and evocative car designs of all time to illustrate this excitement.”

Sounds promising, but to us, this looks more like a possible admission that the brand is interested in a Formula E championship. Come on, an electric, single-seat racer? That screams Formula E, to us.

More news as we have it, from Pebble Beach.
