They used eight Lotus Esprits during filming of The Spy Who Loved me. One of them was built for the famous underwater scene, and it is now going to auction after sitting mostly in storage since the film wrapped in 1977. The car was only barely functional as a sub, and the guy who piloted it during the scene was a former Navy Seal in full scuba gear. RM Auctions estimates the Lotus will fetch close to $1 million when it goes to auction in September.
