Jay Leno’s Garage – McLaren P1 Edition

Seriously loved this video, especially at 3:32 as Paul MacKenzie, the P1’s Programme Director rattles off a list of uber technical specs to Jay. “Uh-huh, yeah”, not to say Jay Leno looks bored, but I’m sure in the back of his mind, he’s reeling to rip this car out of the garage and onto the track.

Jay asks Paul straight up: “What can I expect when I drive this lady today?” Paul pauses for a moment, gives a slightly smug grin, (the kind of grin that comes with holding back on a terribly delicious secret), and answers.

“A huge smile on your face.”

Great set up and a really in-depth look at the inner workings of the McLaren’s 900HP hypercar hybrid. We know Jay’s a car connoisseur, so it’s interesting to get his personal take on how the P1 stacks up against its predecessor, the wilder, raw F1.

Through the P1’s media storm, we’ve also seen a lot of flack due in part to its lesser appeal as a “pure” sports car. In every video we’ve seen are comments on its easy drivability, heavy use of technology, and of course its very identity as a hybrid.
