Watch Jeff Zwart Get Sideways In His Old Porsche 964 Pikes Peak Car
Big Sky, Montana: It’s a gorgeous location for some wild sideways hooning.
This is a delightful new short film from Will Roegge features gorgeous footage of Jeff Zwart’s old 964 Carrera 4 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb racer combined with a bit of Jeff telling the history of the car. We’re suckers for anything with Zwart because he’s got such a delightful personality. It also helps that he has a seriously interesting history with Porsche, and some amazing talent behind the wheel. We’re glad that the filmmaker and Zwart collaborated for this little video, because it proved a great addition to our day. The sounds of that glorious 964 will rev on in our dreams tonight. It’s haunting and beautiful at the same time.

This 964 is the car that powered Jeff’s first Pikes Peak victory. Working with ANDIAL, Zwart was able to put together a turbocharged engine that produced around 500 horsepower. Naturally, it was mated to the Carrera 4’s all-wheel-drive system for maximum traction on the mostly-dirt course. He won his class by a landslide with an impressive 11-minute 53.48-second run up the hill. Keen readers will note that is just under two minutes shy of Rod Millen’s overall time that year in an ‘unlimited’ class car with twice as much power and much more downforce. ANDIAL was forced to craft a new fuel-injection system for the car because the race engine’s CIS system couldn’t cope with the huge altitudes.
Will Roegge and Zwart have worked together a lot in the past, including the now-famous winter driving short in Jeff’s 1953 356 Pre-A coupe, or the promo video for the #LUFTAUTO project, or Jeff’s 2015 PPIHC effort with Porsche. In any case, Will is a quite talented video man, and this 964 video is no different. He’s pulled together some great footage into a quality 3 minutes of entertainment.
