In mid-2012 Fisker Automotive’s battery supplier A123 Systems declared bankruptcy. In turn, this tied Fisker’s business timeline into a constrictor knot. Not only did A123’s issues effectively stop production of the Karma, it consequentially halted any plans or future hopes to make the next product, the Atlantic, a smaller, would-have-been more affordable model.

In addition to the fact that the Karma had its own problems, the halt in production forced Fisker to also declare bankruptcy in November 2013. It seemed like that was the end of one of the most beautiful cars ever made, but in 2014, Chinese investors Wanxiang Group bought both companies with hopes of pressing the restart button. Now, in late 2016, the system has come back online.

There’s a lot to be skeptical, or even dislike, about the freshly named Karma Revero. The original company was funded by American tax dollars and is now under the ownership of a foreign company. The car is still massively heavy and only uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain while the industry moves toward full electric. The price jumped from about $100,000 to $130,00. But still, it’s hard not to root for the car when it’s this damn gorgeous. Mark Stevenson of The Truth About Cars recently had a chance to spend some time with the car and some of the people behind it. Find out HERE why he thinks the limited run will be successful and how it’ll set the company up for its next stage.
