Koenigsegg Regera Takes Off and Sounds Super Odd
Koenigsegg. For years now, the tiny Swedish hypercar builder has been churning out monstrosity after monstrosity. And I say that in the best of ways. The firm’s cars are literal monsters, making over a thousand horsepower and defeating such great hypercars as the Bugatti Veyron, and the Hennessey Venom GT. The cars come from a land of black magic and myth, and Koenigsegg’s latest offering is very much in that same mythological realm.
Called the Regera, the hypercar is a hybrid, just like all the latest hybrid hypercars from Porsche, Ferrari, and McLaren. However, it has one key difference between it and all those hypercars. The Regera only has one single gear.
Koenigsegg for the Regera, mounted a 1,100 horsepower, 5.0 liter twin-turbo V8 and a 700 horsepower battery pack to a single gear transmission. The result is the world’s fastest grand touring hypercar according to Christian von Koenigsegg. The electric battery essentially fills in the torque lag at the lower rpms, giving it the ability to essentially be drivable and controllable at ludicrous speeds. It also makes the hypercar more comfortable in long stretches.
Take a listen to the oddity that is a single gear transmission hooked up to an 1,800 demon.
