Now in its 18th year, the La Jolla Concours D’Elegance turns to the 1920s and 1930s to celebrate a transformational era for the automobile.

Each year, automotive fans have a plethora of events to attend around the globe, many of them pertaining to a specific type of vehicle or era. For those that appreciate the finer end of that spectrum, the La Jolla Concours D’Elegance is one of many prestigious automotive gatherings set in Southern California, a show with a revolving theme designed to keep things interesting. This year, the theme of the La Jolla Concours D’Elegance celebrates the “timeless elegance of the roaring ’20s and glamorous ’30s, a time when the automobile – in general – was becoming a big part of our lives.

The 2024 La Jolla Concours D’Elegance will feature more than 170 finely restored classics from that era and beyond, of course, including some far more modern machinery that’s equally special. However, rather than focus on a single marquee, this year’s show will feature brands of all types – Bugatti, Duesenberg, Packard, Bentley, Rolls Royce, and more – from this very much transformative era in automotive history.

“This year, the Concours is a tribute to the Marques that symbolized the pinnacle of automotive elegance and engineering in the 1920s and 1930s,” said Chairman Michael Dorvillier. “The cars from this era showcase the craftsmanship and groundbreaking designs that defined the roaring 20s and glamorous 30s.”

This year, La Jolla Concours artist Scott Jacobs will once again be called on to put his skills to the test, this time by painting the 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III from the collection of Aaron Wiess for the event’s cover art, which will be featured on posters, programs, tickets, banners, and other materials. The 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III was the only V12-powered machine from that manufacturer until 1998’s Silver Seraph, representing the best in terms of luxury and design from an era known for those qualities.
