Aventador S Boasts Lots of High-Tech Gizmos and Specs You Won’t Care About. But Yes, It Has a 740 HP V12

For an ultra-exclusive auto manufacturer like Lamborghini and even Ferrari, bringing a new model to market costs a heck of a lot of money. Despite the stratospheric prices of their products (including branded teddy bears), they simply don’t have that kind of cash. That’s why changes between completely new models come in bite-sized chunks. Let me show you…

Take for example the “new” Lamborghini Aventador S. As this video by YOUCAR shows, Chairman and CEO Stefano Domenicali walks us through a general overview of the Lambo’s flagship ride. The Aventador is already nearing its sixth year on the market (sold in summer 2011 as a 2012 model), and therefore getting a bit old. So what could this “new” model have in store, Signore Domenicali?

Lamborghini claims the Aventador S is much more aerodynamic thanks to a redesigned body aero package. Up front, the new bumper features vertical slats which channels the air around the bull. On the sides and rear, new ducts manage the airflow more efficiently. All-in-all, Lamborghini says front downforce is up 130 percent and overall efficiency in high-downforce mode increased 50 percent. Lastly, low-downforce mode improved 400 percent! Did you get all that, downforce freaks? Hope so.

Perhaps more interesting than Lamborghini’s attempt to become the next air bender, is their use of four-wheel-steering. Yes, the Aventador S joins the ranks of Bigfoot the Ford monster truck, and the Porsche GT3 RS by offering quadra-steer. At high speeds the rear tires turn in the same direction as the fronts to increase stability, while at slow speeds they do the opposite in order to turn sharper.

Once it’s all said and done, it’s perhaps the 6.5-liter V12 that’s the least news-worthy item on this Aventador. Power is up to 740 just like on the SV model of this raging bull. That’s enough for a 0-60 mph time of only 2.9 seconds.

Andiamo!
