Lamborghini Gives Italian Police Kidney Transplant Transportation
Wasting time isn’t a thing in Italy, that’s why this kidney transplant was husked along at 145mph in a specially-built Huracan.
You’re a doctor in Italy. You have a kidney transplant ready to go. But it needs to be delivered 300 miles away, ASAP. Who would you ring up for such a task? A racing driver? An ambulance? Nope, just call the police.
That’s right. According to The Drive, Italian police have a fleet (yes, a fleet) of Lamborghini Huracan supercars specifically designed for such tasks. The Lamborghinis are said to be, “outfitted with a refrigerated frunk for transporting organs or other temperature-sensitive medical supplies.” And if you think about the car’s capabilities and the Autostrada at your disposal, it makes for a great choice to get organs around quickly.
The kidney had to get from Rome to Gemelli University Hospital, 303 miles to the north. If the trip took 2 hours, that’s an average speed of 145. Not bad. You may think it’s a bit wasteful to have Lamborghinis in your police squad. But remember, it’s a lot more expensive and tedious to fly something and drones aren’t exactly entrusted with donor organs. This really wasn’t about flair, or “because they can.” When it comes down to it, the natural choice would be to just use a really fast car.
The whole plot was actually captured on film, and posted on Twitter. Roughly translated from Polizia de Stato, the tweet says, “Thanks to our Lamborghini Huracan, we have delivered a donor kidney for transplant to a person in time. ‘To save a life you don’t need superpowers’ solidarity, technology and efficiency also help.”
Grazie alla nostra @Lamborghini Huracan abbiamo trasportato in tempo il rene di un donatore per il trapianto a una persona

“Technology” as in a highly tuned V10 engine. And efficiency? Well, when you only need to press a button to fire up a vehicle and go, little time is wasted.
Could we use something like that here? With the way most drivers use our highways, probably not. Cannonball record holders may disagree, however. But we digress. It would be cool to see an RS6 Avant or E63 wagon used for life-saving purposes. Given the popularity of Hellcat motors in everything from Mopar lately, we’re sure Dodge wouldn’t mind showcasing a Trackhawk for high speed delivery service. If it is cool and can save lives at the same time, why not, right?
