Lamborghini Huracan Performante Smashes Nurbugring Lap Record
The Huracan Performance Is the Newest and Most Hardcore Version of the Best-Selling Lamborghini Huracan
6:52.01, that’s the new production car lap record around the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife. In case that doesn’t mean much to you, then you should know that the previous record was 6:57, and it was set by a member of the modern hypercar trinity — the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Considering the Huracan belongs to a “lesser” group of Italian speed demons, the new 5 second faster lap time is nothing short of remarkable. Heck, the Huracan’s big brother, the Aventador SV lapped the ‘ole ‘ring in 6:59.73 back in May of 2015. This not only makes a statement about Lamborghini’s engineering prowess (which has often been considered sub par compared to Ferrari’s, Porsche’s and McLaren’s), but it also ups the antics for what’s to be a very busy season at the Nurburgring.
With new supercars from the likes of McLaren in the near future, it’ll be interesting to see just how long the Italian’s lap record will remain intact. Furthermore, will the upcoming record-holder be a hybrid, turbocharged, or naturally aspirated machine? Only time will tell.
