Lamborghini Urus Has Just Enough Grunt to Beat a Jeep Trackhawk

Lamborghini Urus’ top speed is enough to top the mighty Jeep Trackhawk, but not by as much as you might think.

When Lamborghini announced the Urus SUV, plenty of us laughed at the name and most of us had mixed feelings about its looks, but nobody could argue with the performance. Acceleration to 60 mph from a standstill takes just 3.6 seconds and the Urus can go on to ta top speed of 190 mph.

Those numbers made the Urus one of the fastest production SUVs, but Jeep of all companies already had a world-beating SUV in its lineup with the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. It’s capable of a 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph. Those numbers are just as staggering as the Urus’, but keep that top speed in mind because it’s going to come in handy in a minute.

Hennessey Performance pitted both vehicles against each other in a drag race as part of the company’s performance benchmarking exercises. The Urus beats the Trackhawk by a nose in both races, but the distance between the two is less than you’d probably think.

Both vehicles are stock, but they won’t stay that way for long. The Trackhawk will be getting a massive bump in power, thanks to Hennessey’s 1200 package, which takes output from an already insane 707 to 1,200 horsepower. The Urus, on the other hand, will be getting a much more modest upgrade to its power.

Even without upgrades, the 641-hp Urus is able to outgun the 707-hp Trackhawk, which is a feat. The Lambo’s twin-turbo V8 appears to have more high-end power than the Jeep’s supercharged Hemi, though the Jeep is faster off the line. That top-end grunt is enough to push the Urus past the Trackhawk when the speeds reach over 100 mph and win the race.
