Lamborghini Urus Could Spawn Super Veloce Iteration
With production to begin soon on the new Lamborghini Urus SUV, the company is already looking towards the future of the SUV in terms of multiple variants much like the Porsche Cayenne.
However, whereas the Porsche Cayenne caps its power, Lamborghini is potentially drawing up something similar to the Super Veloce Aventador.
According to Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s CEO, the company is considering special iterations of the Urus including a hardcore SV version. “We have more than enough ideas,” stated the Lamborghini boss, “but it is too early to confirm anything. All options are possible and we will work on evaluating them in the run-up to launch. If our customers want to see something, we’ll do our best to meet their needs.”
However, an SV version would have some competition. Just last week, Tesla announced that the performance version of its new SUV would be able to hit 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds. And with most fingers pointing at the twin-turbocharged hybrid V8 for the Urus, would it be enough to become the ultimate SUV?
While everyone will be anxiously awaiting that drag race, speaking to Autocar, the Lamborghini CEO also stated that the Urus would retain the concepts exterior styling, but that the interior would be refreshed to provide a much more habitable cockpit.
However, with the possible addition of a high performance SV model, would it be better if Lamborghini stuck with the very fighter pilot inspired cockpit of the concept? Only time will tell, and the new Lamborghini Urus is expected to hit production sometime in 2017, and then go on sale in 2018.
