Lamborghini Veneno Roadster Sends Sonic Blast through 2014 International CES
One of the biggest stories at the 2014 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas was at the Monster booth with the unveiling of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster equipped with a banging Monster sound system, which cost roughly $50,000 to install, and will be featured in all nine Veneno Roadsters to be built.
You may be saying to yourself, “Hypercars are entertaining enough; they don’t need high-end sound systems.” You’ve got a good point, but when you own a $4.5-million car, you might want to show off what you’ve got, and what’s wrong with having a cool soundtrack to go along with your rolling spectacle?
I had the pleasure of getting to test out Monster’s 1,500-watt sound system in what is by far the most expensive car in which I have ever sat … the $918,000 Porsche 918 Spyder falls to second place. Monster’s audio system is one of the finest OEM systems I’ve ever heard in a car. There is no perceivable distortion when the volume is cranked, and the speaker placement lends to a very immersive virtual sound stage. If you’re a fan of bass, this Veneno’s audio system has plenty of it, but without being boomy. I especially enjoyed how the system’s low frequencies could vibrate my eyes inside their sockets.
A few days before the Veneno with Monster audio was unveiled at CES, I paid a visit to the shop where they installed the sound system. When I arrived, Noel Lee, the founder of Monster Inc. (a.k.a. the Head Monster) was sitting in the Veneno’s driver’s seat using a laptop computer connected to the Android-based head unit to put his finishing touches on the sound system’s equalization. Even before Lee finished his final calibrations, the system sounded phenomenal. Standing outside the car, if I closed my eyes I would have sworn there was a high-end home theater system sitting in the middle of the shop floor.
With top-tier audio becoming more common in supercars and hypercars, it is nice to know you can be thrilled by your dream machine even before you hit the start button.
