Lexus LFA for Sale on the Cheap (Relatively)

If you want a chance to own the greatest car Lexus has ever created, I have a deal for you. The carbon-fiber Lexus LFA, complete with its F1-derived V10 engine was one of the greatest supercars of this century. A car so special it won the heart of the ever-jaded Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear. When it arrived, it was produced in limited numbers with a price tag of $375,000. It was a car that was surely to rocket in value over the years, but it seems that may not be the case.

Right now in San Francisco there sits a like-new 2012 LFA with just 2,800 miles on the clock. The asking price is currently set at just $369,000; or less than it cost new at retail. The car has no special features or characteristics to define it from the rest of the LFA crowd, but it still seems strange to see it selling for less than it cost new. Limited run supercars don’t really do that.

As strange as it is, it makes beyond happy to see. The LFA is one of the prettiest cars made this decade, and its V10 wail is utterly intoxicating in a way no other road car I have ever heard is. It sounds like an unholy amalgamation of V10 sorcery and supercar grunt. And since it’s not skyrocketing in price it may actually get driven. Too often these kinds of cars are swiped up and parked as investment pieces to be sold in a few years for a healthy profit. I know of one LFA that has less than 10 miles on the clock sitting in a private collection. It was purchased and trailered to its lockup where it has sat untouched since.

For a car this spectacular, this interesting, and this important to the history of a brand it should be seen as a crime to lock it up forever. Supercars make enthusiasts. They grasp the eyes, hearts and minds of people the world over, sucking them into the great automotive world that we love. Maybe with prices sitting stable, or even slightly falling, some of those parked LFAs will make it out onto city streets where they can fill the air with the raucous blast of ten angry cylinders.
