Long Beach Grand Prix to Roll Again, April 13-15
Six races, hot rides, legendary drivers and hardrockers The Cult are set to turn Long Beach into one fast and furious party.
Southern California speed freaks rejoice, the Long Beach Grand Prix is back. From April 13-15 the streets of Long Beach will play host to a slew of events, including six races, like Verizon’s IndyCar Series and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
If you’ve ever wanted to experience what 185 mph is like on surface streets, minus the subsequent jail time and having the state of California light your license on fire, IndyCar’s got your fix. Defending series champion James Hinchcliffe and the rest of the pack will be testing the flexibility of the building glass around downtown Long Beach as they wind their forced induction Honda and Chevrolet V6s to their 12,000 RPM redline.
While IndyCar will attempt to bend the fabric of time through acceleration and cornering speed, the IMSA SportsCar Championship provides a rare glimpse of what a 488, Huracan, and R8 can really do when you trade in parking assist for a giant rear wing and slicks. It’ll also give you a chance to see the new BMW M8 before it hits the market as two of the highly anticipated GT cars will be lined up on the starting grid, along with a pair of factory-backed 911 GTRs, Porsche’s first mid-engine 911.
While motor racing is obviously the main attraction, it’s far from the only thing to do. There’s a family fun center for kids (arcade, rock climbing wall – the usual) and legendary rock group The Cult are this year’s music headliners.
Tickets are available on the Long Beach Grand Prix’s official website.
Now, go, be swift.
