New Lotus Evora GT430 Wows Purists With 430 Horsepower
A top speed of 196 mph and a 0-60-mph time of only 3.6 seconds render the new Evora GT430 the ultimate Lotus.
Not long ago we shared the incredible news that for the first time in many decades, Lotus utilized the black ink cartridge when printing its financial reports. It seems the folks at the factory are so stoked, that they’ve created the ultimate Lotus.
Say hello to the Lotus Evora GT430. Yes, a rather dry name, but they’re British, so what did you really expect? Touted as the fastest-ever road-going Lotus, and certainly one of the most powerful, the GT430 promises to deliver near-motorsport levels of performance. Unfortunately, you will have to wait until August 2018 when it officially goes on sale in Europe — and probably a little bit longer if you live in North America.
Interestingly enough, the GT430 is actually a range of vehicles and not just one model. Under the hood of both the GT430 and GT430 Sport is an identical 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine, which produces 430 horsepower (shocker), and 440 Nm of torque. In case you’re wondering, yes, it features a traditional six-speed manual transmission, although an automatic is also available.
The biggest difference between the two models lays in their downforce and weight. The GT430 features a motorsports-derived aerodynamics package, which includes a carbon fiber splitter, rear wing, louvers in the front wheel arches, and wider wheels and tires. On the other hand, the Sport model without the fancy aero weighs less, creates less drag, and therefore has a higher top speed of 196 mph.
Regardless of which model you choose, we’re more than sure you’ll have a permanent smile on your face. After all, a Lotus that manages to blend old-school charm with new-age technology is definitely a thing of beauty.
