Matt Farah Uses Paul Walker’s Crash As a Reminder To Use Good Tires

There are a million things you can do to a car to improve its performance. Intakes, exhaust systems, racing clutches, short shifters, turbochargers, superchargers all up the ante on what cars are able to do. But if you’re actually going to be driving your cars hard and have a ton of power and capability, there’s still one age-old piece of equipment that is required: Appropriate tires. Unfortunately, it’s often one of the most overlooked and underrated, as well.

During the week of Paul Walker’s birthday, numerous people have celebrated his and Roger Rodas’ lives with memories, videos, and photos. Matt Farah wanted to use the time to help prevent crashes like the one that took their lives by discussing one of the biggest factors that caused it. Again, the tires.

The Porsche Carrera GT that Rodas was driving on that sad day had nine-year-old tires for shoes. As we all know, everybody wanted to blame the fact that the two were going 90 mph around a turn in a car park for the crash, but the reality is that a Carrera GT, one of the most incredible cars ever produced, can handle a 90-mph turn. And Rodas had tens upon hundreds of hours driving cars like this in much more intense circumstances. The original tires were likely the main reason for the loss of grip and the crash.

Read the rest of Farah’s story, and use this as a reminder that any car, no matter how great, can be worthless without the right set of rubber.
