Matt Field's Drift Corvette SEMA 2018

Our favorite pro drift Corvette looks great under the SEMA lights, even with a bunch of rather heavy body damage.

SEMA never fails to disappoint, even though we’ve become accustomed to the many wild and crazy rides we see there each and every year. But among the incredible stuff we’ve come across so far, it’s hard to argue with the awesomeness that is pro drifter Matt Field‘s Corvette. Especially since he wrecked the thing not too long ago. But hey, we think the visible damage just makes it that much cooler.

Thankfully, our own Jake Stumph got to take a ride in this very Corvette earlier this year. Before it slammed into a wall, that is. Otherwise, he might not have enjoyed the experience as much. But we are glad to see that Field drives the wheels off this thing – literally. This, despite the fact that he built most of this Corvette with his own bare hands.

That’s right – Field does most of his own fabrication. For a modern-day professional racer, that’s nearly unheard of. Especially for a guy who pilots a 1,000+ hp car that spends 99% of its work day sideways at speed. Would you trust your own welding skills under those kinds of conditions? We probably wouldn’t.

Thus, both Field and his incredible C6 Corvette racer are national treasures. At least in our humble opinion. Even more so when you consider the fact that campaigning an American car in a sport dominated by Japanese muscle makes him a bit of a pioneer, too. And he’s already begun to draw more and more Corvette drivers to the sport.

Still, Field’s most excellent Corvette drifter is just one of the many amazing rides we’ve spotted at SEMA 2018 so far. So stay tuned, because we’re coming to you live from Las Vegas all week!
