McLaren Driver Miraculously Survives Enormous Crash in L.A.

While engineering a supercar like the McLaren 650S Spider to go really fast, brake really hard, and handle really tight costs a gazillion dollars, making it safe actually costs twice as many gazillion dollars.

This video by, News Top, shows us exactly why it’s important to drive a safe vehicle, as well as why it costs so much damn money to design and produce one. As you can see, the slime-green McLaren pictured here looks just about obliterated, but the driver and passenger cell remains intact. Believe it or not, the driver and passenger both miraculously survived.

According to Jalopnik, the owner of the McLaren was involved in some shameful street racing against a “Dodge Charger or Challenger ,” when he smashed head-on with an Audi at a pretty high rate of speed. In fact, the original story quotes that speed at 70 to 80 mph, but there’s no way in hell that much damage was caused by an under-triple digit crash. Then again, most components are designed to compact and release in the case of a collision, so it might be true.

Thankfully, reports indicate that the 70-year-old male driving the Audi survived, though his condition  hasn’t been released. The same applies for the 40-year-old McLaren driver. Needless to say, stop racing in the streets!
