Bentley Continental Supersports: the Ultimate Expression of Performance by Bentley

Bentley has unveiled a new performance flagship: the Continental Supersports. The brand’s ubiquitous 6.0L W12 engine has been fitted with larger turbochargers and the results are shocking: 700 horsepower and 705 lb-ft of torque. The curb weight has been reduced by 40 kilograms (88 pounds), down to scant 2280 kilograms. That is 5016 pounds. This makes the Continental Supersports’ acceleration and top speed figures all the more impressive: 3.5 seconds from 0-60mph, and 209 mph, respectively. Wow.

The level of effortless performance afforded by that 750 lb-ft of torque is a big talking point for the Supersports. This is still a Bentley after all, it should exude a quiet confidence in it’s abilities and be able to back it up. How very British. The largely monochromatic aesthetic is eye-catchingly distinct. Up close you will notice that the grayscale appearance is sheathing various carbon fiber pieces and a guttural sounding titanium exhaust.

Jethro Bovingdon of DRIVETRIBE offers an up close look at the latest Bentley:

It is something of  tease though, as Bovingdon doesn’t get behind the wheel of the Bentley. Beyond a quick flash of the throttle at the 2:20 mark, it’s all a bit quiet. Too quiet, for our tastes. Fortunately, Bentley has provided us with a rather fantastic short film of the new Conti Supersports tearing through the mountain roads:

The Bentley man wasn’t kidding when he said that it sounds like thunder. Would naming it the “Bentley Continental SuperThor” be too on the nose? I think it has a nice ring to it. If you would like a Continental Supersports prepare to drop quite a bit of coin on it: prices for the coupe start at $296,095. The convertible rings in at $325,325, and that’s before you roll through the options list.
