This Mercedes-Benz W196 Race sold today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed auction for a staggering $29.6 million, making it the most expensive car to ever be publicly auctioned. That pretty much blows away the previous record holder, a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa that sold at Pebble Beach in 2011 for a mere  $16.4 million. The crazy thing is that this car was predicted to sell for around $8 million. I guess someone really wanted the car that Juan Manuel Fangio drove to victory in the 1954 German and Swiss Grands Prix. Jeez.
