New Mazda Miata Teaser Leaked – Looks “Meh”
Here’s the thing, I’m both kinda pissed, and kinda irreverent about the upcoming Mazda Miata. I’m kind of pissed because it really should have debuted at the Chicago Auto Show this upcoming February because it will be the 25th anniversary of it being shown there.
The Chicago Auto Show has continually the highest ticket rate, and is continually s*%t upon by the auto industry. It’s ridiculous. It is my home auto show, and I’ve been going for the last two decades so I am showing my bias.
But seriously, the Chicago Auto Show has the best attendance out of any of the rest by leaps and bounds, but only gets two or three debuts! That’s idiotic. Frankly though, I could really care less about the Miata.
I know, I’m an auto journalist and it should be my bible, but I’ve never driven one. And I’ve never liked the styling. It always seemed too low key, too soft to be a real sports car.
Maybe I’ll be converted by this new one. It is going to be one of the last sports oriented cars to offer a proper manual transmission, so I do have to give credit to Mazda for that. But I’m decidedly meh about the entire car.
The new car is set to debut on September 4th, and this leaked teaser is doing nothing for me. It’s got an all new chassis, all new engine, but from the silhouette of the car, it’s going to look like the last generation Miata.
