MotorWeek Tracks the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3

You don’t need salty ham and high-octane coffee to fully enjoy the glory of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

If there’s one public access channel show we never miss, it’s “television’s original automotive magazine,” otherwise known as MotorWeek. Now, incredibly, in its 37th year, MotorWeek still does a fantastic job covering the latest and greatest in the automotive world. And they aren’t afraid to wring cars like the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 out on the track, either.

Sure, you can read/watch the millions of other reviews on Porsche’s naturally-aspirated, track-focused 911. But you won’t learn about the car via John H. Davis’ silky smooth voiceover and well-crafted anecdotes, now will you? Like this gem: “Could this car truly be that amazing? Or was our judgement clouded by all of that ibérico ham and high octane coffee?”

Thankfully, the answer is yes, all espresso and salty meat-induced benders aside. MW claims that the GT3 provides “the ultimate track experience for Porsche fans.” On the test track, they found it “so nailed down, so confident, and so confidence-inspiring,” thanks to loads of built-in electronic goodies. But none of them ruined the fun quotient, as some electronic nannies often tend to do.

Overall, they found “everything about the GT3 to be just right, from the way the steering wheel fits your hands to the way the car responds almost telepathically to your every input.” Which is a pretty good sales pitch, if you ask us. The car is so well-balanced, in fact, that MW reported virtually no visible tire wear, even after three days of track thrashing.

In all fairness, no one has really lavished anything but praise on the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3. But it’s still nice to hear its many virtues from the best in the biz. These folks have been driving the best cars on the planet longer than some of us have been born. So we’ll gladly take their word for it!
