Mulgari Icon 3: The Best Modified BMW M240i Ever?

By -

Taking inspiration from the E30 and E46 M3, the Mulgari Icon 3 isn’t a copycat M2 but something much more.

In the current understanding of sports cars there comes an issue that is not so easily solvable. How to integrate amazing driving dynamics and feeling while using modern, desensitized technology. One of the first gripes M3 owners made after the release of the F8x M3/M4 was the electronic steering. In every previous M3 until that point, the steering had been hydraulic. This hydraulic system gained a reputation for being incredibly precise and visceral, providing feedback in a delicate and approachable manner. Although the M4 generation 3-series hosted multiple steering sensitivities and driving modes from A to Z, it just couldn’t replicate the analog tactility of a hydraulic system.

This analogy is being made to understand the ideology that Mulgari, famed tuning company, is approaching with their new modified M240i (dubbed Icon 3). Their hopes with the car is to have a modern BMW with all its advanced technology and still give it the classic-period M-Power driving sensation. Evidently, this is not a task easily accomplished. Thanks to Carfection on YouTube, we get to see how the Mulgari will seek to solve this dilemma through Icon 3.

So what exactly is the difference between a regular M240i and the Icon 3? Well, the most obvious feature has to be the bodywork. The car has widened fenders inspired by the E30 M3 as well as complementary side skirts and a front lip. We have to say that the Icon 3 does look properly menacing, but somehow still looks very subtle in its aggression. Not to mention a complete carbon roof, which is directly descendant of the E46 M3 CSL. Next is the modified suspension, a set of KW Clubsport coilovers, which completely change the driving dynamics of the vehicle with their high-end dampening. To help with handling, an M-performance limited-slip differential also has been equipped.

New seats, a new steering wheel, you name it, every piece of this 3-series has been upgraded to provide the most captivating driving experience possible. Of course, it also has a healthy boost in power, bringing the total to 440 HP and 440 foot pounds of torque. This Icon 3 has the recipe refined to every last detail. However, is it really as good as its compatriots of old? To find out the detailed answer to that question, we recommend you enjoy the full video.
