Just like the rich get richer, the sexy get sexier. Meet the all-new Triumph Bonneville Thruxton R. The top-shelf R is part of a redone and redesigned Bonneville line that also includes the Street Twin, the T120, the T120 Black, and the base Thruxton. New styling. New engines. More power. More performance.

Starting with the engines, out goes the 865cc, and in comes the new liquid-cooled parallel-twin powerplants that include a 900cc version for the Street Twin, and a 1200 for the 120s and Thruxtons. According to Triumph, the Street Twin’s new engine produces 59 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm, which the Brits say is 18 percent more than the previous Bonneville. The T120 improved by 54 percent with 77.4 lb-ft at 3,100 rpm, and the Thruxton makes 82.6 lb-ft at 4,950 rpm.

Specific to the high-performance R model are Brembo monobloc brake calipers, Showa big piston forks, Öhlins rear suspension, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa Tyres. The chassis for this bike has built specifically for sport riding, and none of the new chassis share any parts with the old bikes, Triumph insists.

As far as styling goes, the Thruxtons continue to do the Café Racer than as good or better than anybody. That’s because this motorcycle pretty much invented it. Slight cues have been altered on the new bikes, and a humongous variety of different accessory packages are available. Like, 470 options humongous.

New tech was also updated, giving he Bonnie ride-by-wire throttle, ABS, slip-assist clutch, traction control, and LEDs. The Thruxton also has rain, road, and sport ride modes. We’ll take one of the Rs with the Track Kit with the cockpit fairing.
