Doctor Details Next Steps for Michael Schumacher’s Treatment
It’s been two weeks now since doctors have starting waking Michael Schumacher from his medical induced coma.
As you might have heard, the legendary F1 driver was hospitalized after a tragic ski accident on December 29th, leaving him in critical condition with severe brain hemorraging. The good people at Jalopnik have posted an in-depth look at Schumacher’s treatment and current condition direct from Dr. Gary Hartstein, a former F1 doctor.
We’re reminded that Dr. Hartstein is not the chief physician on for Schumacher, nor is he receiving direct medical information from Schumacher’s medical team inĀ Grenoble, France. But as Formula One’s former Chief Medical Delegate, he’s very familiar with the nature of head trauma injuries like Michael’s and provides his personal take.
In his article, he clears up some misnomers and falsely reported information on anaesthetics, a breakdown on sedation techniques, and a detailed look at head trauma cases like this one.
Original article was published on Dr. Hartstein’s blog “A Former F1 Doc Writes”.
It’s a tough pill to swallow, as we’ve still yet to receive official and conclusive word on Schumacher’s condition, but we definitely appreciate Dr. Hartstein’s insights on difficult to grasp medical situations.
