Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R Tribute Car Goes On a Wild Ride
Go for a POV ride in a Paul Walker Skyline R34 GT-R tribute car made famous by the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie.
It is not an exaggeration to call the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R a legendary car. For those of us in the United States it was a piece of forbidden fruit. For many in the U.S. our first exposure to the car was from a Playstation game. However, in the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious the Skyline R34 GT-R was prominently featured.
This film introduced the car to a new and broader group of enthusiasts, and really thrust it into the spotlight. The movie exposure combined with the fact that the car is awesome has made it a legend. That legend continues even to this day. You can head down to the local Nissan dealer and buy a brand-new GT-R if you so desire. But as incredible as the new GT-R is, there is something about that Skyline R34 that really hits the sweet spot.
The folks at AutoTopNL recently posted a video on their YouTube channel that puts you in the drivers seat of this historic car. The R34 in the video is not an authentic car. It is designed to look like the movie car that Paul Walker drove. It uses a GT-R engine, but the platform it rides on is from a GT-T.
The fact that it is not a real R34 GT-R does not diminish the enjoyment you will have in watching this car tear up some local back roads. The nice thing about this video is there is not any chit chat or attempts at tired driving impression clichés. The driver simply straps in and lets the car do all the talking.
It turns out that the car has quite a bit to say. The sound from the blow-off valve is quite clear, and the exhaust noise is pronounced. Speaking of exhaust noise, there is a portion of the video where the driver stops under a bridge and revs the engine just to hear the sound.
Raise your hand if you have ever been guilty of doing the same. The car speaks in more ways than just sound. You can see the driver has his hands full trying to control this beast under hard acceleration. How hard is the acceleration in this car? Well, it is severe enough to launch the infotainment screen right out of the dash. Just imagine what would happen if the car were jumped off an open drawbridge at 160 mph.
OK, so this might not be a Hollywood stunt, but seeing this Skyline R34 GT-R ripping around some side streets in real life is quite satisfying. The POV angle helps to give perspective to the speed and squirminess of the car. It may not be the most expensive or fastest car around, but what a blast this thing must be to hustle around. Even if the Fast and Furious movies are not your thing, there is no denying the appeal to this car.
Paint it up any color scheme you want and put any stickers on it that make you happy. The R34 GT-R is an epic car. Even if the car in question is just an ode to the great R34, there are worse ways to spend your money for sure.
