Norway’s First RWB Porsche Build – “Ruri”

Akira Nakai’s world-famous extravagant RWB-style graces another Porsche for a beautiful blue and gold themed build.

We are almost certain that every single person who frequents 6SpeedOnline knows of Akira Nakai. We wouldn’t be surprised if those who are familiar with him don’t like the guy at all. This is likely because they don’t like his RWB Porsches. We can understand, everybody has their own idea of what is good-looking or tasteful.

Some folks believe that these custom Porsches are all show and no go, but we made a post about that in the past. However, at the end of the day, when it’s your car and your money, you can do whatever you want. Recently, Norway received its first-ever RWB build courtesy of Nakai-san. Mio on YouTube made a short cinematic video to highlight the occasion. We thought it was a well-shot piece that was worth sharing.

This build was begun in October of last year. Considering the description of the video states that this was “looking back to a fantastic weekend”, the build was finished within two days. As most know, Nakai-san first plans out the build over the course of a couple of months with the client. After finalizing a design concept, a date is created for Nakai-san to come personally anywhere in the world to install the kit by hand. In this case, the kit was made for a beautiful 993 dubbed “Ruri”. The name comes from the Japanese name of a blue gemstone.

As there aren’t too many of these RWB builds in the world and this is the first of its kind in Norway, it follows the tradition of having a personalized name. As we watch the beginning of the video, we see Nakai-san arrive at the airport, presumably in Oslo. The first thing he does? Smokes a cigarette and drinks some coffee. Nakai-san is famously known for his old-school laid back demeanor and chain-smoking cigarettes is definitely part of that. You’ll see him light more than one or two in the video. One of the most hilarious YouTube comments from the build video is “smokes a pack every 10 min, yet wears a dust mask when sanding and cutting… legend.”

After Nakai-san does a quick look over at the Porsche, he begins working. This includes things such as adding mesh grills to the bumpers or cutting away at the original bodywork to fit his signature widebody panels. Lots of sanding, cutting, and measuring go into this process obviously, but it’s more interesting to see this man just fall deeper and deeper into his process. He is known to ask the help of the owner for certain parts of the build, such as installing the signature front windshield banner.

Once the last piece is installed and the build can officially be considered finished, Nakai-san shakes your hand in a sense of confirmation. In this video, he also signs the dash in the same color of the contrasting custom Rotiform wheels that grace the car. You might watch this whole video and now hate Nakai-san even more, but some folks will fall in love with RWB for the first time.
