McLaren P13 Coming to Geneva
We’ve been hearing the rumors for awhile, but it’s great to hear the news. Word on the street is, the long awaited baby McLaren will be coming to the Geneva Motorshow 2014.
As you may recall, the P13 is aimed at squarely at the uncontested 911 turbo’s price range of about $180,000. We say uncontested because there’s little else in that class that can challenge the 911 in sport-supremacy, at least not as well as the McLaren promises. Here’s the specs:
- 3.8 Twin-Turbo v8 (from the 12C) detuned to 444-450hp
- 0-62mph under 4 seconds, but won’t exceed 200mph
- MonoCell carbon fiber body *drool*
To be honest, there’s a part of me that’s kind of wary. I’ve expressed this sentiment before, but perhaps it’s just my particular view of the British automaker and their history of making nothing but absolutely insane hypercars and record breaking vehicles.
A detuned 450hp McLaren just feels a little meek in comparison to its insane siblings, the MP4-12C and P1. However, I also see it as a solid move for them as a whole company. End of the day, it’s a move to spread their brand, and what better way accomplish that than by making yet another vehicle that people will surely drool over?
Key thing to note – P13 production is still going to be very low volume in the grand scheme of things, aiming for 2,500 P13’s produced per year.
