Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Acceleration Defies Belief
With 680 total combined horsepower, Panamera E-Hybrid has the power to collapse lungs.
Porsche owners are in no short supply of fast cars these days, many of which now don’t come in the form of a 911. Porsche’s Panamera is one of those fast cars, and the Turbo S E-Hybrid packs a whopping 680 combined horsepower and 630 lb/ft of torque. Aside from the 911’s upper echelon of performance models, that’s more than you’ll get out of any other model on the showroom floor. However, you’ll still have to fork over 185,000 for it.
You do get a lot of car for the money, however. Acceleration to 60 miles per hour is dispatched in 3.2 seconds, thanks to launch control. But you do also get the equivalent of 49 miles per gallon. Even more so, you get usable space, with room for 4 plus their luggage. Some may not like it, but the Panamera is seriously encroaching on the 911’s significance in the Porsche lineup. But then again, you’ll have to ignore the nearly $85,000 price difference from a standard 911. Perhaps the 911 will remain safe, as it won’t be any time soon that we see a Panamera will be buzzing around Le Mans or the Nurburgring endurance races. After all, you can get still get the 911 with a manual transmission.
However, nearly every other Porsche is adopting this E-Hybrid technology, even the 919 Hybrid Evo is making it clear that the E-Hybrid Porsches are at the forefront of making hybrids the most desirable models. Plus, there’s no denying the advantages. Power numbers of 4.0 liter V8 are already stout, at 550 horsepower, and you’ll get that out of the Turbo S model, which makes it stunning that the hybrid is now the top of the range. The tables of performance sure have changed. It’s only time before the 911 gets wrapped up in the same technology.
