Photos Of Porsche’s Perfect 911 R Leaks Early
It creeps ever closer my Porsche-loving friends. We have heard whispers of the 911 R for a while now, and it seems as though the wait is finally over thanks to a set of leaked photos hosted over at AutoCar.
When the new GT3 was announced as a PDK-exclusive car, the world bemoaned the lack of a high-revving, race-ready 911 with a clutch pedal. The 911 R looks to remedy this by providing a 911 with the same 4.0-liter flat-six, complete with its nearly 9000 rpm redline, but in a slightly more comfortable package than a GT3 as well as the ever important manual transmission.
The car not only provides purists with nearly 400-horspower and a clutch pedal, but it also serves to pay homage to the original 911 R that first arrived nearly five decades ago. The final package has yet to be confirmed by Porsche yet, but it is supposed to be announced in the next day or two at the Geneva Motor Show.
If you are wondering why the world needs a slightly more comfortable version of a GT3 with a clutch pedal, two things that make the car slower, you don’t understand the purity of experience that defines Porsche. A great drive is not always about top speed or Nürburgring lap times, it’s about sensation, connection and feeling. This is a 911 built for those who value and cherish the feeling of a great drive over the actual performance envelope of a vehicle. The 911 R is here to prove that sometimes that tenth of a second comes at the cost of sensation and joy.
