In this video from Motor Trend, we can see the inaugural class of the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Pikes Peak Hill Climb Trophy take to the mountain in the specially-prepared Cayman GT4 race cars. The field is made up of elite racing drivers and top amateurs alike. Thankfully, all of the drivers have a literal ace in the hole, Jeff Zwart. A driver as legendary as the race itself, Zwart has collected 8 class championships at Pikes Peak, all of those wins from behind the wheel of Porsches.
On a reconnaissance run up the mountain, former X Games motocross competitor Travis Pastrana and retired Major League Baseball pitcher CJ Wilson share how their experiences as athletes prepared them for the mentally and physically grueling task of competing at Pikes Peak. Facing competitors like IndyCar star J.R. Hildebrand, they’ll need every edge they can get.
Throughout the twenty minute video, we watch the competitors grow not only as drivers and competitors, but as friends. It’s clear to us that the first year of the Porsche Challenge at Pikes Peak was a success, and we’re eager to see what the future holds for this exciting new class.
