2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S: Matt Farah Falls in Love
At $200,000 this Turbo S isn’t even close to being fully loaded, but that doesn’t keep it from being an outrageous and understated supercar.
Now that nearly all Porsche Carrera models feature turbocharged engines, there’s very little in terms of performance and behavior differences. With most of them being built from the same parts bin, Matt Farah explains what might separate one from the other.
This “One Take” episode of TheSmokingTire brings us the 991.2 Turbo S in stunning Miami Blue. And despite its $198,000 price tag, it still features six button blanks in the center stack. Yes, there is such thing as spending nearly $200k and not checking all the option boxes.
As Farah explains, this particular model is missing the nose lift system, the sport exhaust (which is a must), and it doesn’t even have the sportier power seats. What it does have is an outstanding 3.8-liter boxer-six engine with 580 horsepower, which is capable of reaching 60 mph from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds when equipped with the Sport Chrono package and the PDK transmission. Its top speed? Just 205 mph.
Just like Farah does on all his “One Take” episodes, he gives the Porsche a good shakedown along some lovely canyon roads outside of Los Angeles before offering some sort of verdict. While the noise of the engine isn’t quite as sexy and loud as we wished, we can imagine that being behind the wheel has got to be a very special feeling.
After carving out some twisty roads, Farah stops to demonstrate the Turbo’s launch control which he describes as “violent.” Of course, he has a few more things to say about this supercar in sheep’s clothing.
Enjoy!
