Porsche 918 Weissach Goes 217 MPH in Australian Outback

Germany isn’t the only country in the world that has sections of their roadways de-restricted. In parts of the Australian Outback, there are stretches of roads tens of kilometers long. The Australian government has decided to allow de-restricted speed on a 72 kilometer section of roadway, and Porsche wanted to celebrate.

They took a Weissach package 918 Spyder to the land down under, and recorded their stunt. They maxxed out the 918 Spyder on that stretch of road, and created the video below to document the run.

I appreciate any video of the 918, especially one going flat out down the highway. But I’m curious how much planning in advance was needed for the shoot. I’d had to be going 300 km/h  and have a kangaroo jump out in front of me. But I suppose animal risks like that are everywhere.

When I think about vacation destinations where I can enjoy a good romp in a fast car, Australia isn’t the first country that typically comes to mind, but with their change in speed limit policy in parts of the Outback combined with great weather, I might have to set Australia as my next vacation destination!
