This particular 1979 Porsche 930 was treated to a DP conversion early in life, as well as a host of RUF performance parts.

Old, air-cooled Porsches have been red hot collector’s items for many years now, with even the less-liked “safety bumper” cars joining that proverbial party as prices continue to rise. Thus, it should come as no surprise to learn that this amazing 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo DP I 935 up for grabs at Bring a Trailer has already soared to a nearly $200k bid after just a couple of days on the block, with a pretty stratospheric hammer price seemingly inevitable. In all fairness, it certainly seems to be worth it, al least.

Originally sold in Germany, this 1979 Porsche 930 was promptly treated to a Euro-spec DP Motorsport 935 I bodywork that consists of flat-nose front body panels, revised bumpers, vented quarter panels, flared fenders, flat-front fenders, and a 930S-style bumper with integrated headlights. The Guards Red beauty also features front and rear spoilers, revised side skirts, dual side-view mirrors, and oil cooler and brake ducts for cooling purposes. A set of 15-inch Fuchs-style wheels caps off the classic look.

The same goes for the interior, which is in equally amazing condition and sports black leather seats with plaid inserts, with amenities including a Matter roll bar, a fire extinguisher, a boost control knob, a Blaupunkt Bamberg stereo, and leather-wrapped Momo Prototipo steering wheel. The odometer shows just 55k kilometers, or 34k miles, which is completely believable given how amazing this vintage Porsche looks, inside and out.

Underneath, this particular car is fitted with Bilstein dampers and Porsche-branded calipers with cross-drilled rotors. Power is plentiful, thanks to Porsche’s 3.3-liter flat six-cylinder powerplant that sports a RUF turbocharger and intercooler, as well as an ECU tune. That power flows to the rear wheels via a RUF five-speed manual transmission and a limited slip differential for what promises to be rather spirited performance.

A real time capsule, this DP-equipped 911 is a truly fantastic example of its breed, and a car that deserves every penny it earns at auction. However, that figures to be a whole heck of a lot of pennies, the way things are currently going.
