Porsche 935 Takes Epic Test Drive at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Reborn Porsche 935 doesn’t just look amazing, it also sounds incredible and goes like a brisk wind.
When Porsche revealed an all-new version of its legendary 935 racer at last year’s Rennsport Reunion, the world collectively swooned. And then, we all collectively slumped after learning that Porsche was only going to build 77 of these incredible machines. Thus, only a very lucky select few will ever get to experience the new 935. And now, that short list includes Henry Catchpole of Carfection fame.
Catchpole was lucky enough to get some seat time in the 935 at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. And honestly, where else would you want to drive this thing? Catchpole was also kind enough to share his impressions of this stunning Porsche with us in depth. Aside from its amazing retro looks, the new 935 unsurprisingly impresses on the track, too.
“As you may have been able to hear from those uncharacteristic whoops and hollers shortly after crossing under the finish gantry, I absolutely adored driving the 935,” Catchpole said. “Even on this most fleeting and public of stages that demands a certain amount of prudence because mishaps are easily come by and rarely forgotten.”

“I experienced enough of the car’s performance and was exposed to more than enough of its character to fall a little bit in love,” he added. “The slick tires add a whole new dimension over a normal GT2 RS. As does that steering wheel. The gear shifts activated by the wafer thin carbon pedals feel almost sequential sharp. And the noise from the flat-six is several stages more gloriously roar and angry than the road car.”
“The speed that it piled on what is effectively a single lane country road was genuinely unsettling. This is just so much more than a GT2 RS and a fancy frock. I feel exceptionally lucky to have had a go in this. And the 77 people that have bagged one? Well, they’re even luckier.”
Reviews don’t get much more glowing than that. But then again, would we expect anything less from Porsche? Especially from a car revived from the dead with such a legendary nameplate? Certainly not us!
