Porsche 991.2 911 GT3: Does It Work on Real Roads?
We’re well aware of the fact that the new 911 GT3 is an amazing car on the track. But what about public roads?
If there’s one thing that’s been made abundantly clear about the Porsche 991.2 911 GT3, it’s that this thing is a proper track monster. But let’s be honest, how many owners of this future classic are actually going to drive them on a circuit? Truth is, probably not very many. Most of them will (hopefully) be used largely on public roads. So it only makes sense that someone test the latest 911 GT3 there and report back on how it performs at less than 9/10ths.
Thankfully, that’s exactly what the folks at Carfection have done in this video. No helmets, fire suits, or lap times here, just pure, unadulterated, twisty road goodness. But does using the latest track-focused 911 GT3 on the road diminish how special it truly is? Not at all. In fact, our host has a burning desire to buy one after driving it just a country mile.
‘I was instantly jealous of anyone that gets to drive one of these every single day,’ he continues. ‘There’s so much to enjoy about it, and at all speeds.’ Even at slow speeds in the wet on Cup II tires, the steering proves more than capable of holding the road. It’s ‘a massive breath of fresh air compared to so many other modern cars,’ which is a huge compliment, indeed.
The revised 4.0-liter flat-six and its bevy of low-end torque provides ‘something to enjoy at every level,’ not just at the 9,000 RPM redline. The suspension is so good that it’s essentially ‘unnoticed,’ soaking up everything you throw at it. Traction is ‘staggering,’ chassis balance intuitive. It all adds up to a 911 GT3 that is a ‘tremendous, fabulous, beguiling, interactive and amazing car.’ So who needs a track, after all?
