Porsche 991 Turbo S Sets 1/4 Mile World Record

By -

This 991 Turbo S might look stock, but it rockets down the drag strip like a man possessed.

It’s not exactly a secret that the 991 Turbo S, like every other modern iteration of Porsche’s turbocharged 911, is seriously fast. But as quick as these things are, a little bit of tuning and a few aftermarket parts can make them even faster. As in, fast enough to run the quarter mile in times previously reserved for hardcore drag cars. But you’d never mistake this rather stock-looking 991 Turbo S for anything like that!

And yet here we see this black beast destroy the quarter in 9.478 seconds at 148.01 miles per hour. Which, in case you’re wondering, is nearly two-tenths faster than Dodge’s purpose-built Demon. It also happens to be a world (and obviously U.S.) record for any 991 Turbo S. Which, as you might imagine, is a pretty hotly contested achievement.

Watching the Porsche pull off this feat is impressive, too. And on a side note, it’s pretty hilarious to watch it absolutely sprint away from the poor Honda in the other lane. With turbos wailing, the built 911 blasts down the track like some sort of possessed demon trying to escape the deepest pits of hell. And once its driver receives his frame-worthy time slip, he’s obviously more than a little giddy.

So if you’re looking to build a reasonably priced quarter-mile destroying machine, look no further than a gently used 991 Turbo S. Or heck, any other gen of Porsche’s boosted 911. With a little work and some Christmas tree practice, you too can be the hero at your local track. Or, depending on who you’re lining up against, perhaps a villain, too!
