These two Cayman GT4 RS one-off creations pay tribute to the pair of Porsches that participated in the 1953 Carrera Panamericana rally.

Porsche and fashion go together like peanut butter and jelly, with the automaker having teamed up with a number of brands in that realm for a variety of reasons over the years, in addition to running its very own fashion house. Now, Porsche has teamed up with yet another name from the world of fashion – Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer – to create not one, but two very special Cayman GT4 RS builds as part of its Sonderwunsch “special request” customization program, which are intended to celebrate the 70 year anniversary of a pair of Porsches that participated in the Carrera Panamericana rally in Mexico.

“Porsche Latin America is celebrating the legendary Porsche participation in La Carrera Panamericana between 1952-1954, with the creation of these two special vehicles,” said Tobias Eninger, CEO of Porsche Latin America. “This year we are proud not only to have created an homage to the starting number 152 who won in its class at the Carrera Panamericana in 1953, but also to reenact the team race with the vehicle starting number 154. In support of our Corporate Social Responsibility programs, the number 152 will be auctioned as well for noble purposes in Mexico.”

There are – as one would imagine from a custom Porsche build – a ton of details here worth lulling over. For starters, these special Cayman GT4 RS builds are finished in Le Mans Silver Metallic, which was created specifically for the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition, itself a tribute to the 356 SL Coupe that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951. The two machines also feature the numbers 152 and 154 on their doors and roof, to boot.

Inside the cabin, one will find a host of Guards Red accents including the seats, door pulls, and stitching, while the dash features green, white, and red stitching to pay homage to the colors of the Mexican flag. There’s also “GT4 RS Panamericana Special” script engraved in a couple of spots, along with “Sonderwunsch” embroidery on the floor mats, multiple Tag Heuer logos, and a Tag Heuer stopwatch mounted in car #154. Both feature special, one-off clocks from the watchmaker that are exclusive to these cars, too.

The intention here – as is often the case with Porsche – is to use this pair of Cayman GT4 RS builds to pay homage to the two Porsche 550 Coupes that participated in the 1953 running of the Carrera Panamericana rally, and it’s pretty clear that as is usually the case, Porsche nailed it. Throw in some pretty cool timepieces that are also fantastic conversation pieces, and is latest partnership certainly looks like another match made in automotive heaven.
