Porsche to contend the 2014 USCC with CORE Autosport
Porsche has confirmed that they will partner with CORE Autosport for the 2014 TUDOR United Sportscar Championship.
Porsche has not had a factory backed effort in either the American Le Mans series or the Rolex Sportscar Series since their contractual obligations with Flying Lizard Motorsports ended at the end of the 2012 ALMS season.
Porsche motorsports watched the two premiere sports car racing series in America hoping to find a team worthy of carrying on their vast racing legacy. Porsche sees having a factory backed effort in America as a way to keep their brand familiar and sustainable in America, their largest retail market.
CORE Autosport has seen great success racing a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR for the 2014 ALMS season. Core has yet to get a win in the GT class in 2013, although they captured a podium finish at Lime Rock and are currently fifth in the points standings. Those feats are commendable considering the veteran competition in the GT class and CORE’s late start to the season due to continued development of their GT effort.
CORE Autosport has also confirmed that they will continue to campaign a single car in the PC class for 2014. CORE Autosport is currently leading the PC class in the ALMS with only two races left.
